LabelThis type of sword was carried by the guard of the doge (chief magistrate) of Venice in the late fifteenth century. It is named for the members of this guard, who came from the Dalmatian Coast of present-day Croatia and were then called Schavoni in Venice.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
